By Lorrie Kamaka

Deciding to need mental help is not an easy thing to do, let alone accept it. It is one of the hardest and bravest things to do. But sometimes, finding for the most competent among the Seattle therapists is such a challenge that some might not want to go on. More so, the different options may be confusing. Understanding the different choices can make a lot of difference.

When searching for a therapist, the first part could be very confusing. There are various terms that you meet along the way such as social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapist and counselors and probably acronyms such as LPC, PhD or M. D as well. Although all of these choices are a good one, not everyone might be appropriate with your situation.

Emotional and mental health problems most likely go hand in hand. For such reason, choosing an inappropriate therapist for your problem is rampant. Before you go on searching for the right type of therapist understanding your choices is important as it increases the chances of making an appropriate choice. This is a big step for you to be happy hence it's essential for that first step to be accurate.

Probably the first thing that would come to mind when you seek help are social workers. Social workers can sometimes be a volunteer to the community or professionals that received a master's degree in social work. In communities social workers are considered to be the first line of support to individuals or families that are exposed to substance abuse, sexual abuse, domestic abuse and related issues.

Counselor is a title that usually describe and LPC or someone that is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has achieved a master's degree in counseling and psychology. Psychologists are professionals that are certified and licensed to practice in the jurisdiction. These professionals are trained to conduct tests, diagnose and perform therapy.

But unlike psychiatrists, psychologists are not licensed to prescribe medication. Psychiatrists are M. D. S or medical doctors, hence they are not only capable of conducting tests, making a diagnosis but also conducting therapies and prescribing medication. The simplest way to know which one to pick from these choices is to assess deeply what you're feeling.

For example, if one is feeling very stressed that inhibits them to function very well in their lives, or if something happened that's completely affected you then looking for a social worker is advisable. In most cases, counselors and social workers are reliable and affordable and they will refer you to a psychiatrist or a psychologist if symptoms warrant.

It's wise to say that Seattle therapists exemplify mental health professionals that talks to clients, regardless of their qualifications and official titles. Choose whichever you think is the best and slowly start a better life to live.
